




Led by Board Chairman Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu and Ag. CEO Ms. Peninah Wahome, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Board and Management convened for a strategic meeting focused on strengthening institutional governance, enhancing oversight capacity, and advancing the Agency’s strategic priorities.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Board and Management to engage on critical operational, policy, and governance matters, including the implementation of recently approved Human Resource Instruments, adoption of the eBoard system, the ongoing review of the National Anti-Doping Policy, ADAK Anti-Doping Rules, and the Anti-Doping Act in preparation for alignment with the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code. The discussions also centred on strengthening corporate governance, reinforcing institutional independence, and fostering a clear separation of roles between the Board and Management in line with best governance practices. Through these engagements, the leadership reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and effective stewardship of Kenya’s anti-doping programme.
The retreat reflects the unwavering dedication of both the Board and Management to continuously strengthening the Agency, ensuring that ADAK remains responsive, effective, and well-positioned to deliver its mandate of protecting the integrity of sport and promoting clean competition for all Kenyan athletes.
The engagement convened the ADAK Board led by Chairperson Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu together with Board Members: David Kipketer, Mohamed Mraja, Peter Omingo, Joseph Maina Njogu, Carol Amondi, and Ag. Chief Executive Officer Peninah Wahome to formally introduce the Board and strengthen institutional collaboration with the Ministry. Also in attendance was Nuh M. Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund.
The deliberations focused on:
- Providing a comprehensive update on Kenya’s anti-doping programme,
including progress achieved, emerging challenges, and priority areas for
intervention - Strengthening policy, operational, and institutional frameworks to support
clean sport - Identifying critical Government support mechanisms to enhance compliance
with international anti-doping standards - Reinforcing strategic alignment between the Ministry and ADAK in
safeguarding the integrity of sport.
The meeting reaffirmed the Government’s and ADAK’s shared commitment to the protection of athletes, the promotion of fair play, and the continued positioning of Kenya as a global leader in clean sport.
