Maj. Gen(Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu

Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu, CBS Chairperson, Board of Directors – Anti-Doping Agency
of Kenya (ADAK). Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu is a distinguished military General with immense
experience in leadership, management and governance gained over time during his stellar career spanning over
36 years in the Kenya Defence Forces and international peace and security space. He brings into the Agency extensive expertise in strategic leadership for growth of the institution. During his military service, the General held severa strategic command and leadership positions, including Commandant of the Kenya Military Academy, Force Commander of the East African Community Regional Force in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of
Personnel and Logistics a position from which he oversaw all KDF sporting activities. He also
Commanded the Armoured Brigade. Earlier in his career, he served as Military Adviser atKenya’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in
New York, advising on peacekeeping and international
security matters.
Maj. Gen. Kiugu holds a Master of Science in Security
and Risk Management from the University of Leicester
(UK) and a Master of Military Art and Science in
Strategy from the U.S. Army Command and General
Staff College, among other academic and professional
military qualifications.
In recognition of his distinguished service to the nation,
he has been awarded several national honours including
Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder
of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Moran of
the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).
